Scientific Drawing

Thursday in class we learned how to make a scientific drawing.

These are the basic rules of scientific drawings that you must apply during the microscope lab on Friday and Monday:

-use pencil, but do as little erasing as possible

-always print

-write the title in all capitals above the circle for image

-draw the image to scale; it should be the same size as you see it under the microscope

-label the image by drawing lines straight across to the side; no crisscrossing lines, arrows, curving lines and by using the singular form of the word

- write the name underneath; if you know the scientific name- underline it and capitilize the first word for example, our species would be written as Homo sapiens and fruit flies would be Drosophilia melangaster

-write your name under the scientific name

- write the total magnification underneath your name

Microscope Use

We will be using microscopes tomorrow and Monday to view prepared slides and microorganisms in lake water. If you were absent on Wednesday 11/3/10, see me for the microscope parts and function worksheet. If you would like to review the parts of a microscope and how to use one, this link will be helpful for you:

Can you name the part before clicking to see if you're right?
